The Kick-boxing means both all disciplines of combat using the feet and fists and a special, the "boxe feets-fists" developed by the Japanese in the early 1950, also called "japan kick-boxing". Americans themselves have developed in the early 1960 "American kick-boxing".
There are many who think that the kick-boxing is a sport originating in Thailand, Japan or another Southeast Asian country. In fact, the origins of the sport are unveiled by his first name: "Full-contact Karate".
In Japan, in the years 1950 and 1960, experts from karate and other martial arts arrange competitions with full contact on carpets and ring, and were born "Japanese Kick-boxing"
Meanwhile in the USA, many martial arts schools also hold competitions with full contact. Then a kind of revolution taking place since the early 1970, many practitioners operating in karate competitions felt frustrated by the regulations in force favoring control of the keys. They then sought a system in which they can make use of the power of kicks and punches, rather than stopping them before touching the opponent, leaving the decision to the arbitrators to judge whether they were effective. Karate Full-contact and American Kick-boxing were born.
From term kick, we tend to assign the name "Kick-boxing" in all disciplines involving kicks to punching from the english boxing perspective. Thus the equivalent of the French term "boxe pied-poing".
The "Full-contact" is called in some countries "Kick boxing without low-kick" (because the kicks to the legs are prohibited) and it has been a long time called by mistake 'Kick Boxing'.
The punching are taken from the "english boxing", kicks are identical to those of "martial arts" and can be worn all over the body (head, torso and thighs). Also for the "Japanese kick-boxing" knees kick can be on trunk and face.
