Daniel practices martial arts since 1968. He increased his Kyokushin karate
skills by the side of Master Shihan Shigaru Oyama, for over ten years. During
that time, he acquired the knowledge and expertise to master his art. This was
done, by monthly going to New York's central dojo, USA OYAMA KARATE.
He trained, ate, slept and lived with the Japanese to better understand their
cultures. He opens his first school in Laval on year 1979. To fulfil his dream, he was obliged to literally live in his dojo for three years. To better respond to the growing demands, he increases his school. His great determination leads towards national and international championships.
For example:
- In 1981, in middle weight category, he finished second position in Alabama's North American Kyokushinkai Full Contact Karate Tournament. During this tournament, he performs his fastest personal KO, by defeating his adversary in 2,5 seconds;
- In 1982, at a surprising weight of 154 lbs, Daniel Gauthier was the first Canadian to be the North-American Champion, All Categories, Full Contact.
Shihan Daniel Gauthier establishes his mark as a "Recordman" in breaking:
- In 1983, he records a premier by breaking a tone of cement, with only one bare hand using the three techniques seiken, hiji et shuto. This record has never been surpassed or even equaled by no one using the three true breaking techniques especially using one hand with no protection;
- In 1985, he realizes a speeding record by breaking with his elbow (hiji), one quarter of a tone of cement in only 11 seconds.
In 1986, with his skills and talents of communicator, he
produces, with the help of Radio-Canada, a television mini-series and a video
cassette on auto-defense for women. He participates a bit everywhere in Quebec to numerous events like Telethons, Sports exhibitions, Non-professional sports galas, Cultural parties, Leisures. In 1988, he receives his certification from National Canadian Trainer. 
In 1989, he receives a trainer reconnaissance certificate obtained from the "Ministère des Loisirs". As if his great karateka profile wasn't enough, in 1989, he creates his own organization Quebec Kyokushin Gauthier (QKG). His organization now has a lot of schools across the province. It's in 1993, that he brings his group to join the ranks of the International
Federation of Karate (IFK) to the sides of Hanshi Steve Arneil, 9th Dan of England. This association is a great value, because it puts the Quebec organization on the international level. It is then that Shihan Daniel Gauthier is able to organize, in 1995, his first International Full Contact Championship, with participants from across the world from England, Russia, Ireland, Australia, Pakistan, United-States and more. Year after year, this tournament takes greater proportions. Not only does he host karatekas
from all parts of the world, he is also invited by other IFK organization to
teach and give them seminars on different aspects of Kyokushin karate and also presents differents teams of karatekas.
Like:
- In 1996, during an annual summer camp at Vladivostok in Russia, he teaches weapons, auto-defense and fighting techniques;
- In 1996, he convinces the United States to join the great and big IFK family;
- In 1997, he is the trainer of the Canadian National Team that participates to the first world IFK Championship, at Moscow, Russia;
- On may, 14th of 1999, in the first world Kyokushin IFK, he is the trainer of the Canadian Team, who comes in 3rd place by a 0.1 point difference of the 2nd place in Kata Championship. The team was compose of Luc Lefebvre, Sophie Troie and Julie Nadeau;
- In 2001, to the first World Cup of Germany, Julie Nadeau finished in 2nd position of fighting;
- In 2002, to the Spain's world Championship, Julie Nadeau finished in 3rd position of fighting;
- In 2003, to the Poland's world Championship, Julie Nadeau finished in 3rd position of Kata;
- In 2005, to the England's world Championship, Julie Nadeau finished in 3rd and Yannick Galipeau finished in 3rd of fighting, that reprente the best canadian result and that was never see;

All his career long, he formed over than 200 black belts and a lot of champions even in katas than in fighting all over provincials, nationals, americans and internationals levels.
